Disney’s latest live-action remake of one of their classic animated fairy tales, Cinderella, followed a trend started with last year’s Maleficent and opened to an impressive $23 million on Friday. Whereas Maleficent took the approach of telling the story of Sleeping Beauty from the villain’s perspective, the Kenneth Branagh-directed Cinderella is much more of a straight-ahead remake, but that’s not deterring American moviegoers who love their Disney-centric fantasy. Cinderella should close out the weekend with around $75 million, on par with past Disney hits like Oz the Great and Powerful.

Opening in second place was the latest Liam Neeson action pic, Run All Night, but it bowed with only $3.86 million, a fraction of Taken 3‘s $14 million opening day in January, or Non-Stop‘s $10 million opener last year. Run All Night should finish the weekend with around $11 million.

In third place, Focus dropped 41% in its third weekend, pulling in $1.7 million on Friday. And Kingsman: The Secret Service had a 25% drop to $1.67 million. The spy action thriller has had staying power, managing to finish in the top four for 29 days in a row.
